Periyar Maniammai Institute of Science & Technology, Thanjavur

Periyar Maniammai Institute of Science & Technology is a private deemed-to-be university located in Vallam, near Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, India. Its campus spans 115 acres, situated 45 km east of Tiruchirapalli and 10 km west of Thanjavur. The institution was founded in 1988 as Periyar Maniammai College of Technology for Women, named in honor of social reformers Periyar and his wife Annai E. V. R. Maniammai. Initially affiliated with Bharathidasan University, it was reassigned to Anna University in 2001. In 2007, it was granted deemed-to-be-university status and renamed Periyar Maniammai University. However, this status faced legal challenges, being halted by the Supreme Court until the matter was resolved in 2014. In 2017, following a directive from the University Grants Commission instructing 123 institutions to remove 'university' from their names, it was renamed Periyar Maniammai Institute of Science & Technology. The institute comprises several faculties, including Architecture and Planning, Engineering and Technology, Computing Sciences and Engineering, and Humanities, Science and Management, offering programs in fields such as aerospace engineering, biotechnology, computer science, mathematics, and management studies.
