NEHRU COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND RESEARCH CENTRE, PAMBADY

Nehru College of Engineering and Research Centre (NCERC) is a private engineering college situated in Thiruvilwamala, Thrissur District, Kerala, India. It is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, affiliated to the University of Calicut, and accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The college holds ISO 9001-2008 certification and is run by the Nehru College of Educational and Charitable Trust, established in 1968 and headquartered in Kuniamuthur, Coimbatore District, Tamil Nadu. The trust collectively operates 12 institutions in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, known as the Nehru Group of Institutions. The college gained national attention in January 2017 following the death of an 18-year-old computer science student, Jishnu Pranoy, who was found hanging in his hostel bathroom after alleged harassment and physical assault by college authorities over purported exam malpractice. The incident led to widespread protests, revelations of so-called 'torture rooms' on campus, strict and unusual disciplinary rules for students, and a Central Bureau of Investigation probe. The CBI investigation concluded the student had died by suicide, and the college's chairman was cleared of accusations by the State Crime Branch. Students also reported other controversial incidents, including masked male strippers appearing outside the women's hostel, with management allegedly failing to act on complaints.
