National Institute of Occupational Health

The National Institute of Occupational Health, also known as Statens arbeidsmiljøinstitutt or STAMI, is a government body organised by the Norwegian Ministry of Labour and Social Inclusion. The institute deals with a range of occupational health areas, employing staff with competence in medicine, physiology, chemistry, biology, psychology, and other disciplines. It addresses all aspects of Norwegian working life, working in both environmental and health fields, and frequently visits workplaces to examine their health practices. The institute maintains an occupational health clinic that treats patients suffering from work-related illnesses, and this clinic is also used to train health professionals and other students. Organizationally, the National Institute of Occupational Health is divided into six sections: Information, libraries, and learning; Administration; Work medicine; Work physiology; Toxicology; and Work hygiene. These sections reflect the institute's broad focus on the medical, physiological, chemical, and hygienic dimensions of occupational health, supporting its mission of researching, monitoring, and improving health conditions within workplaces across Norway.
