MANIPUR UNIVERSITY OF CULTURE

Manipur University is a public central university situated in Imphal, the capital of Manipur, India. Its main campus lies at Canchipur, on the site of the former royal palace Langthabal Konung, established in 1827 by Maharaja Gambhir Singh. The university was created by the Government of Manipur on 5 June 1980 under the Manipur University Act, 1980, initially functioning as a state-run teaching-cum-affiliating institution. It gained central university status through the Manipur University Act, 2005, passed by the Parliament of India and effective from 13 October 2005. Today the university comprises nine schools of studies and forty-seven academic departments, and it affiliates 119 colleges across Manipur, including three medical colleges and the Manipur Institute of Technology, its sole constituent college. It is recognised by the University Grants Commission and holds a 'B+' NAAC accreditation as of 2023. The campus spans about 287.53 acres, featuring administrative and academic buildings, a library, hostels, a health centre, and other facilities. Governance follows the standard central-university model, with the President of India as Visitor, the Governor of Manipur as chief rector, and a Vice-Chancellor overseeing daily administration.
