MRS A V N COLLEGE

Mrs. A.V.N. College was founded in 1860 as a school in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, and grew with public support, especially from local zamindars. It became a high school in 1866 under European headmaster Mr. E. Winckler, who later became principal when the institution was elevated to college status in 1878 under the name Hindu College, affiliated to Madras University. In 1892, landlord Ankitam Venkata Narasimha Rao endowed the college with money, land, and a building in memory of his wife, leading to its renaming as Mrs. A.V.N. College. The college celebrated its Diamond Jubilee in 1938 and its Centenary in 1960. Over time, it expanded its academic offerings to include Intermediate and Degree level courses, restructured B.Sc. programs such as Bio-Chemistry, Fisheries, Electronics, Computer Science, and Statistics, and diploma courses introduced in 2012.
