The Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) is a medical school located in Pune, Maharashtra, India, managed by the Indian Armed Forces. It was established in May 1948 as a post-graduate teaching institution following the recommendations of the BC Roy Committee, amalgamating remnants of Indian Army Medical Corps units to form the Armed Forces Medical Services. The undergraduate wing, known as the Graduate Wing, was established on 4 August 1962 to increase the intake of medical graduates into the Armed Forces; this date is celebrated annually as AFMC Day. The college was originally affiliated with the University of Pune until 1999, and is now affiliated with the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences. It is recognised by the Medical Council of India for its MBBS programme. AFMC trains medical and dental postgraduates, nursing cadets, and paramedical staff, and provides the entire pool of specialists and super specialists to the Armed Forces. The institution also conducts research into medical subjects affecting the performance of the Armed Forces. In 2023, President Droupadi Murmu granted AFMC the President's Colour during its platinum jubilee year. The college has been ranked among top medical colleges in India by various ranking bodies.
