UNIVERSITY OF LADAKH
University of Ladakh (UOL), also known as Ladakh University, is a public university located in Leh, within the Leh district of the Indian Union territory of Ladakh. It functions as a cluster university, comprising the degree colleges of Leh, Kargil, Nubra Valley, Zanskar, Dras, and Khalatse. The university was established on 16 December 2018 through The University of Ladakh Act, 2018 (Governor Act No. LVI of 2018), enacted by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir. On 5 August 2021, the University of Ladakh signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Delhi University to foster scientific and academic collaboration. This agreement aimed to support academic workshops, conferences, seminars, cultural exchanges, sporting events, and the exchange of expertise to update curricula in line with current employment and industry demands. Shortly after, on 8 August 2021, the university appointed Dr Surinder Kumar Mehta as its Vice-Chancellor for a three-year term. The university is associated with other academic entities in the region, including the Indian Astronomical Observatory and Sindhu Central University.
