Bangur Institute of Neurosciences, also known as the Bangur Institute of Neurology (BIN), is a government-run apex superspeciality institute and hospital located at 52/1A, Sambhu Nath Pandit Street, Bhawanipur, Kolkata, West Bengal. It was founded in 1970 in a newly constructed two-storeyed building with twenty indoor beds, sanctioned by the Government of West Bengal, to serve as an institution for postgraduate training and research in neurological sciences. The institute is adjacent to and functionally attached to IPGMER and SSKM Hospital. In 1975, its facilities were expanded and bed strength increased from 20 to 70, with 38 beds allotted to the Department of Neurosurgery. BIN is affiliated to the West Bengal University of Health Science. It functions as a government-sponsored neurological institute and training centre in West Bengal, receiving patient referrals from various hospitals in the state and neighboring regions. Research activities at the institute include studies on strokes, cognitive neuroscience, movement disorders, epilepsy, neuromuscular conditions such as myasthenia, developmental brain disorders, Wilson's disease, electrophysiology, botulinum toxin, and neurogenetics. The institute has faced controversies related to insufficient bed capacity leading to patient admission issues, and administrative actions such as the 2011 suspension of its then director, Shyamapada Gorai, by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
