GANDHI MEDICAL COLLEGE BHOPAL
Gandhi Medical College (GMC) is a public medical college in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India, inaugurated on 13 August 1955 by Pt. Lal Bahadur Shastri. It began functioning in the Polytechnic College building with 50 students and two departments, Anatomy and Physiology. The permanent campus, built within the historic Fort of Fatehgarh, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on 13 March 1963. The college houses Hamidia Hospital, Kamla Nehru Hospital, Sultania Zanana Hospital, the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology, the National Institute for Research in Environmental Health (NIREH), a Cardiac Science Center, and the Medico-Legal Institute, the first of its kind in India, established in 1977. The Medico-Legal Institute played a key role during the 1984 Bhopal gas disaster, conducting postmortem examinations and preserving samples for chemical analysis. The college offers departments spanning basic sciences, clinical specialties, and surgery. Admission to MBBS is through NEET-UG, while postgraduate admissions occur via NEET-PG. The institution is governed by the Gandhi Medical College Society under the Department of Medical Education, Government of Madhya Pradesh, and is affiliated with the Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University in Jabalpur.
