Dimapur Govt College

Dimapur Government College (DGC) was established in 1966 in Dimapur, Nagaland, through the initiative of local people who wanted a higher education institution for those unable to afford education elsewhere. It was inaugurated on 25 July 1966 by Mhondamo Kithan, then Education Minister of Nagaland, and was initially known as Dimapur College. In its first year, it had seven faculty members and 83 students enrolled in the Arts programme. The college was originally affiliated to Gauhati University, then to North-Eastern Hill University from 1974 to 1993 after its establishment in 1973, and is now affiliated to Nagaland University since 1989. On 1 February 1989, the Government of Nagaland took over the college's administration and finances, and it was renamed Dimapur Government College. The college offers undergraduate courses in Arts and Commerce, with departments including Economics, Bengali, English, Tenyidie, History, Political Science, Education, Commerce, Philosophy, and Hindi, along with vocational programmes in Hospitality and Management and Floriculture. The college is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
