Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS) is a Jesuit-run business school located in Ranchi, India. It was established in 1955 as an extension department of St. Xavier's College, Ranchi, by Michael A. Windey, with the aim of training young men and women in Rural Development, Personnel Management, and Industrial Relations. The institute was named after Francis Xavier. In 1963, Michael Van Den Bogaert was appointed director and served for 23 years. In 1973, XISS was registered as a separate educational society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, and in 1978 it moved to its present site. XISS currently offers several Postgraduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) programmes, including specializations in Human Resource Management, Rural Management, Information Technology, Finance, and Marketing, as well as the NSE Certified Capital Market Professional (NCCMP) certificate. The institute has collaborated with UNICEF to establish a Knowledge Management Resource Centre (KMRC) focused on women and children-related issues in Jharkhand. XISS also hosts Panache, an annual cultural and management fest held in February, open to students from colleges across the city. The institute is recognized for its postgraduate programs in Rural Management and Human Resource Management, attracting campus recruitment from major multinational and Indian companies.
