Punjab Engineering College (PEC), officially Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), is a public technical institution situated in Chandigarh, India. It traces its origins to 1921, when it was established as Mughalpura Technical College in Mughalpura, a suburb of Lahore in British India. The institution was renamed Maclagan Engineering College in 1923, then Punjab College of Engineering and Technology in 1939. After the 1947 partition, it moved to Roorkee and became East Punjab College of Engineering, later dropping 'East' in 1950. In December 1953, it relocated to its present Chandigarh campus, initially affiliated with Panjab University. In October 2003, the Government of India granted it Deemed University status. Spanning 146 acres, PEC offers Bachelor of Technology, Master of Technology, MBA, and Bachelor of Design degrees, along with doctoral programs in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics fields. Admission to undergraduate and graduate engineering programs occurs through the Joint Entrance Examination – Mains and the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. The college has collaborated with numerous national and international institutions and companies for research, exchange programs, and centers of excellence. It also hosts PECFEST, an annual cultural and technical festival that began in 2003 and later merged with the technical fest VYOM in 2014.
