University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad
The University of Hyderabad (UoH), also known as Hyderabad Central University, is a public central research university situated on a 930-hectare campus in Gachibowli, Hyderabad, Telangana, India. Established in 1974 through an Act of Parliament as part of the Six-Point Formula aimed at addressing regional educational disparities, the university initially operated from 'The Golden Threshold', a historic estate bequeathed by Sarojini Naidu's family, before relocating to its current campus. UoH was designated an Institution of Eminence by the Ministry of Education in February 2020, granting it enhanced autonomy and funding. The university has more than 5,000 students and 400 faculty members, and is primarily a post-graduate research institution offering integrated M.Sc., M.A., MFA, M.Tech., MBA, MCA, MPhil, and PhD degrees. Admissions are highly competitive, using CUET-UG and JEE Mains for various programmes. The campus, rich in biodiversity, contains 734 plant species, 10 mammal species, 15 reptile species, and 220 bird species, along with lakes, forest cover, and a protected megalithic site. The university's Indira Gandhi Memorial Library, inaugurated in 1988, was the first automated university library in India. In 2015, UoH received the Visitor's Award for Best Central University in India.
