Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology (CIPET), Bhubaneswar

The Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology (CIPET), formerly known as the Central Institute of Plastics Engineering and Technology, is an autonomous institution functioning under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India. It was established in 1968 at Chennai with support from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the International Labor Organization (ILO). Since then, CIPET has expanded to have 43 operational centres across the country, with nine more in the process of establishment, serving the needs of the polymer and allied industries. The institute was set up to develop skilled manpower in various disciplines of Plastics Engineering and Technology, as no similar institute existed in India at the time. CIPET offers specialized academic and skill development training programs in Polymer Science and Technology, along with technology support through consultancy, design, tooling, testing, and quality assurance services. It also conducts research and development on polymeric materials. Admission to CIPET centres, including the one in Khordha, Odisha, is through a joint entrance examination conducted annually by the institute.
