Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) is a medical state university and specialty hospital located in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, India. It was conceived along the lines of AIIMS Delhi and established by an act of the Andhra Pradesh State Legislature. The foundation stone was laid on 18 April 1986 by N. T. Rama Rao, then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. The hospital began functioning on 2 February 1993 and later became a Medical State university in 1995. The current Director-cum-Vice Chancellor is Dr. R. V. Kumar. In 2019, the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranked SVIMS 72nd overall in India, 77th among universities, and 29th in the medical ranking category. Academically, the institute offers a 4½-year M.B.B.S. course including a one-year compulsory rotating internship, with 175 seats filled through the NEET UG exam. SVIMS also provides postgraduate courses in almost all medical disciplines, along with doctoral programs such as MCh in Neurosurgery and Cardiac Surgery, and DM in Cardiology and Neurology, totaling more than 28 postgraduate and postdoctoral courses.
