DR B C ROY NURSING INSTITUTE

Dr. B. C. Roy Institute of Medical Sciences & Research, whose hospital component is known as Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee Super Speciality Hospital, is a medical school and research institute situated at Balarampur, outside the IIT Kharagpur campus in Paschim Medinipur district, West Bengal, India. It was planned to begin with a 400-bed multi-speciality hospital offering specialities such as Cardiac, Neurosurgery, Organ Transplantation, Oncology, and Trauma, later expanding to 750 beds. The institute was also to include advanced research facilities like Telemedicine, Tissue Engineering, and Bioelectronics, and planned to start with 50 undergraduate medical seats. Infrastructure and academic planning were jointly carried out by IIT Kharagpur and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi. The hospital phase was expected to begin by the end of 2019, with graduate and postgraduate medical courses expected to start in 2021–22; medical courses were later announced to begin from November 2021. During the COVID-19 lockdown, the unoccupied hospital building served as a quarantine center. As of 2022, the hospital had 160 general beds, 90 ICU beds, and 10 child crib carriers, with 44 ICU beds donated by Arjun Malhotra. The institute currently offers only MD courses, with plans to add a nursing college and paramedical training school.
