K. G. Engineering Institute (K.G.E.I.), established in 1922, is a government polytechnic institute located in Bishnupur, Bankura district, West Bengal, India. It is affiliated to the West Bengal State Council of Technical Education (WBSCTE) and approved by the All India Council For Technical Education (AICTE), offering diploma-level technical education. It is controlled by the Department of Technical Education, Training & Skill Development, Government of West Bengal, and is one of the oldest polytechnics in West Bengal and among the oldest technical institutes in India. Originally founded as Vishnupur Industrial School for the upliftment of cottage industries, it underwent several name changes, becoming Technical School in 1929, War Technicians Training Institute in 1940, and finally K.G.E.I. in 1951, honoring founder Krishna Gopal Ghosh. It became a full-fledged sponsored polytechnic in 1949 and was taken over by the Government of West Bengal in 1976. The campus spans about 19 acres with classrooms, workshops, labs, a library, a 900-seat auditorium, and four hostels, including a girls' hostel. Admission is through JEXPO and VOCLET exams, and the institute has a training and placement cell and a community development wing.
