Nongtalang College

Nongtalang College is an Indian co-educational higher education facility situated in the rural borderlands of the Khasi and Jaintia Hills in Meghalaya, near the international border with Bangladesh. It was founded in 1988 by the Nongtalang Village Durbar, guided by the late Shri John Deng Pohrmen, former Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya. The foundation stone for the main college building was laid on April 9, 1988, by the then Chief Minister, Shri Purno A. Sangma. The college was established to provide educational opportunities to underprivileged students who lacked the means to pursue higher studies in larger towns and cities. The Nongtalang and Manniew Durbars donated one hectare of land for a residential campus, whose foundation stone was laid on December 19, 1996, by then Chief Minister Shri S.C. Marak. The college operates under the backing of the Meghalaya government and is managed by a governing body. It is registered under the Meghalaya Societies Registration Act, 1983, and received official approval to open in 1993. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council awarded it a 'B' grade accreditation in 2017, renewed in February 2023.
