BIHAR ANIMAL SCIENCES UNIVERSITY

Bihar Animal Sciences University (BASU) is a state agricultural university situated in Patna, Bihar, India, holding jurisdiction over veterinary and animal sciences within the state. Its establishment stemmed from the 'Bihar Agricultural Road Map 2012–2017', which called for a new university for animal husbandry, dairy, and fisheries. The university was formally created in 2016 via the Bihar Animal Sciences University Act, passed as a Bill in August 2016. It was formed by transferring Bihar Veterinary College and Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Dairy Technology from Bihar Agricultural University, along with six other institutes from Bihar Agricultural University and Rajendra Agricultural University. The College of Fisheries, Kishanganj, was later approved in May 2018 and established in August 2018. The university became operational in June 2017 with the appointment of its first Vice-Chancellor, Rameshwar Singh. BASU offers undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, and diploma programs in veterinary science & animal husbandry, dairy technology, and fisheries management. It comprises three constituent colleges—Bihar Veterinary College, College of Fisheries Kishanganj, and Bihar Institute of Dairy Technology—along with six other institutes including poultry, cattle, buffalo, and goat breeding farms.
