A J Institute of Medical Sciences

AJ Institute of Medical Science is a medical college located in Mangaluru, with an annual intake of 150 students. It was established on 21 October 2002 as an offshoot of A J Hospital and Research Centre, promoted by industrialist A.J. Shetty. The college is situated at Kuntikana junction on NH-66. It is affiliated with RGUHS and recognized by the National Medical Commission. The first batch of students completed their final MBBS examinations in February 2007 and finished their internship in 2008. The institute offers post-graduate courses, including M.D. and M.S. degrees, across departments such as Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, Pharmacology, Pathology, Microbiology, Community Medicine, ENT, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, PTCD, Anaesthesiology, Radiology, General Medicine, General Surgery, Paediatrics, and Obstetrics & Gynecology. Prashanth Shetty serves as the Director of AJIMS. The college uses campus management software to automate workflow processes, improving communication and user experience for students, faculty, and parents. In 2020, a controversy arose during the pandemic when the college was reported to be withholding full stipends for post-graduate doctors, despite the administration denying any discrepancy.
