In 2018, the National Council for Hotel Management (NCHM) announced that all IHMs, including IHMCTANs, would provide a vegetarian cooking option starting that academic year, following earlier moves by IHMCTANs in Ahmedabad, Bhopal, and Jaipur in 2016. IHMCTAN Pusa had already practiced vegan cooking through designated 'vegan months' and sustainability initiatives such as rainwater harvesting. The National Institute of Hotel Management (NIHM Delhi), operating under IHMCTAN, was granted autonomous institute and deemed university status in February 2026.
