Bareilly College

Bareilly College, Bareilly (BCB) is an institution in the metropolis of Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, India, established as a Government school in 1837 under Sir Charles Metcalfe and elevated to a Government Degree College in 1850. The college suffered during the Indian Rebellion of 1857, when its principal was killed and it was closed, later reopening in 1858. It was affiliated with the University of Calcutta in 1862, closed again in 1876, and reopened in 1884 as a second-grade college. It later affiliated with the University of Allahabad in 1888 and law in 1889, and is now affiliated with Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University. The college is housed in a building donated by the Nawab of Rampur, in an area known as Rampur Garden, with a new building added in 1905. It offers graduate, postgraduate, and professional courses in arts, science, commerce, education, management, computer science, library science, and law, along with Ph.D. programs in various subjects. Science and commerce departments were introduced in 1929 and 1944 respectively. Notable alumni include Rajesh Agarwal, Naseem Ahmad, Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Vinod Kapri, and Ajit Singh.
