Raja Peary Mohan College
Raja Peary Mohan College is a general and honours degree college in Hooghly District, West Bengal, India, functioning under the University of Calcutta. It provides undergraduate courses in arts, commerce, and science, serving as a popular institution for students from Uttarpara, the Hooghly district, Howrah, and North 24 Parganas. The college was established in 1881 by Raja Joy Krishna Mukherjee, a social reformer and educationist, and was later renamed in 1953 after his son, Raja Peary Mohan Mukherjee, who took over its management. The institution moved from the government aided list to the unaided list in 1887. Notably, in 1938, Bengal's Prime Minister A. K. Fazlul Huq and Finance Minister Nalini Ranjan Sarkar visited the college. During the Naxalite movement era, in December 1967, a police attack on protesting students and teachers at the college injured 18 teachers, including the vice-principal. The college's science faculty includes departments such as Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science & Application, Botany, Zoology, Physiology, and Economics, while the arts and commerce faculty includes Bengali, English, Sanskrit, History, Political Science, Philosophy, Education, and Commerce.
