THE ROYAL COLLEGE OF PHARMACY

The Royal College of Pharmacy (RCPharm) is the body responsible for the leadership and support of the pharmacy profession within England, Scotland, and Wales. It was created alongside the General Pharmaceutical Council in September 2010, when the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain was split into separate representative and regulatory bodies. Its predecessor, the Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain, was founded on 15 April 1841 at 17 Bloomsbury Square, London, with founding members including Jacob Bell and William Allen. The organisation officially became the Royal College of Pharmacy on 15 April 2025. Its headquarters are now on East Smithfield Road, London, having previously been located in Lambeth from 1976 to 2015. The college offers five categories of membership: Member, Fellow, Associate, Student, and Pharmaceutical Scientist. It operates two publishing divisions, Pharmaceutical Press and PJ Publications, producing works such as the British National Formulary and The Pharmaceutical Journal. The college also manages a museum collection dating back to 1842, covering British pharmacy history, and oversees National Pharmacy Boards for England, Scotland, and Wales chaired by Mahendra Patel, Catriona Sinclair, and Liz Hallett respectively.
