Zoram Medical College
Zoram Medical College and Hospital, previously known as Mizoram Institute of Medical Education & Research (MIMER), is the first medical college in Mizoram, India, located at Falkawn, about 16 km from Aizawl. Construction on the associated State Referral Hospital began in 1999, and the hospital started functioning with 50 beds in 2005, later expanding to 150 beds in 2012. MIMER was established under a Centrally Sponsored Scheme for new medical colleges attached to district/referral hospitals. Prof. Lallukhum Fimate was appointed its first director in October 2017. Permission to start MBBS courses was granted in May 2018, and the college was inaugurated on 7 August 2018 by Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla. It was renamed Zoram Medical College in April 2019. Admissions are based on NEET scores, with 100 seats annually divided among All India Quota, NRI Quota, and State Quota. The college offers an MBBS course affiliated with Mizoram University, a two-year Master of Public Health program, and, from 2025, postgraduate speciality programs (MD/MS) in Anaesthesiology, Paediatrics, General Surgery, General Medicine, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
