Chikkaiah Naicker College

Chikkaiah Government Arts and Science College, previously known as Chikkaiah Naicker College, is a state government-run general degree college situated in Veerappanchatram, Erode, Tamil Nadu. It was founded on 12 July 1954 as 'Mahajana College' under the guidance of social reformer E. V. Ramasamy and other philanthropists, initially affiliated with the University of Madras. It was later renamed Chikkaiah Naicker College in memory of its founder, M. Chikkaiah Naicker, and became a Government-aided college. Due to management issues, it was directly administered by the Government of Tamil Nadu from 1998 until February 2025, under the Regional Joint Director of Collegiate Education, Coimbatore Region, as per the Tamil Nadu Private Colleges Regulation Act, 1976. From 11 March 2025, following approval by the President of India, the institution was transferred and vested in the government, becoming Chikkaiah Government College of Arts and Science, a complete government institution. Starting with 150 boys, it has grown into a co-educational institution with 1200 students, offering undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and research programmes. The college is affiliated with Bharathiar University, recognized by the UGC, and accredited by NAAC with an A Grade.
