North Eastern Regional Institute of Science & Technology, Papum Pare, Itanagar

North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) is a science and technology institute in Nirjuli, Itanagar, Papum Pare district, Arunachal Pradesh, India. It originated from a 1979 proposal by the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, with the society registered in 1983 and the foundation stone laid on 4 March 1984 by President Giani Zail Singh. The institute began operations in 1986 with base modules, adding diploma modules in 1988 and degree modules by 1990. It came under full funding and control of the Ministry of Human Resource Development in April 1994 and was granted deemed university status in May 2005. NERIST is managed by a Board of Management headed by the Director of IIT Guwahati, with the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh as head of the NERIST Society. The campus, divided by National Highway 52, spans 500 acres and is fully residential, with ten hostel blocks, faculty quarters, a medical unit, schools, and other facilities. Academic programs range from certificate and diploma levels to degree courses in engineering, technology, and applied science, accessed through various entrance examinations.
