NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF ELECTRONICS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY,NIELIT

National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), formerly known as the DOEACC Society, is an autonomous scientific society under the administrative control of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India. Its origins trace back to 1974, when the Department of Electronics and the University Grants Commission, with assistance from the Swiss Development Corporation, established the first Centre for Electronic Design and Technology at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, to bridge the gap between academia and industry in electronics design. In 1994, the DOEACC Society was formed and registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, to accredit computer training programs offered by the private sector. In December 2002, several autonomous societies and centers, including CEDT centers and Regional Computer Centres, were merged into the DOEACC Society, expanding its network. On 10 October 2011, the society was renamed NIELIT to reflect its broader role in human resource development, training, and education in electronics and ICT. Today, NIELIT operates over 56 centers across India, grouped into five regional zones, and serves as a key implementing agency for digital literacy, skill development, and e-governance initiatives, while continuing to offer formal and non-formal courses such as the O, A, B, and C level programs.
