Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology Nagpur (VNIT), formerly known as Visvesvaraya Regional College of Engineering (VRCE), is a public technical university located in Nagpur, Maharashtra. Established in 1960 as part of the Regional Engineering Colleges scheme sponsored by the Government of India and Government of Maharashtra, it was named in 1962 after engineer and statesman Sir M. Visvesvaraya. In 2007, it was declared an Institute of National Importance under the National Institutes of Technology, Science Education and Research Act. The institute's roots trace back to 1947 when the Architecture Department was established by the Madhya Pradesh Government. The campus, spanning about 225 acres near Ambazari Lake in western Nagpur, includes academic blocks, hostels, sports facilities, a library, auditorium, and health center. VNIT offers undergraduate B.Tech. programs in eight engineering disciplines and a B.Arch program, along with postgraduate and doctoral programs across engineering, architecture, and science departments. Admissions to undergraduate programs are conducted through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main, with seat allocation managed by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSSA) since 2015, reflecting its status as a highly selective institution alongside other NITs and IITs in India.
