The Institute for Studies in Industrial Development (ISID) is a public-funded, autonomous institution dedicated to policy research, advocacy, capacity-building, and outreach activities aimed at fostering India's industrial transformation. It was registered on October 7, 1986, under the Indian Societies Registration Act 1860, and in 1988 became one of the institutions supported by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), Government of India, through grants-in-aid. Since 2006, the Institute has operated from its own campus in the Vasant Kunj Institutional Area, South Delhi. ISID is recognized as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) by the Government of India and is listed on the DARPAN portal of NITI Aayog as a recognized think-tank. It is a member of the Asia-Pacific Research Network on Trade (ARTNet) and the South Asia Network on SDGs (SANS) of UNESCAP. Its databases and e-resources are accessed nationally through the INFLIBNET Centre of the UGC. ISID conducts national conferences, policy dialogues, and research seminars on India's industrialization, and in 2024-25 launched a PhD Programme in Economics and Public Policy in partnership with Jawaharlal Nehru University. It also runs capacity-building programmes for university teachers and researchers, and has produced numerous publications on industrial development and related policy issues.
