COLLEGE OF RURAL HOME SCIENCE,DHARWAD

The College of Rural Home Science, Dharwad, originated as the Home Science College, established in 1974 to impart education on rural-based home science at the Dharwad campus. It was founded under the University of Agricultural Sciences, which had earlier been created in 1964 with headquarters in Bengaluru, and which also included agricultural colleges at Hebbal and Dharwad, a Veterinary College, and other institutions. The university grew significantly over the years, prompting its bifurcation in 1986 due to differences in agroclimatic zones across the state. Following an amendment to the University of Agricultural Sciences Act in 1986, the University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad was created with jurisdiction over the northern districts of Karnataka, while the Bengaluru-based university retained jurisdiction over southern districts. As part of this restructuring, institutions on the Dharwad campus, including the Home Science College, came under the newly formed University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad. The college was intended to provide education focused on rural home science within this agricultural university framework.
