Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore

Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV), formerly known as the University of Indore, is a state university situated in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. It was established in 1964 by an Act of the Legislature of Madhya Pradesh and was inaugurated by Dr. Zakir Hussain, then Vice President of India. Initially limited to Indore district, its jurisdiction was later expanded to cover the seven districts of the Indore division: Jhabua, Alirajpur, Dhar, Khargone, Khandwa, Burhanpur, and Barwani. In 1982, the university was renamed after Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar, the Maratha queen of Indore. The university operates through three campuses—Takshashila, Avanti, and Nalanda—spread over 760 acres, and has more than 300 affiliated colleges serving over 300,000 students, with about 9,000 students on its own campuses. Academic offerings include conventional disciplines such as Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, and Statistics, as well as professional courses like B.Ed., MBA, engineering, and medical programs. The university has received UGC Special Assistance Programmes for several schools and has invested in IT infrastructure, including campus-wide fiber networks and e-governance initiatives. Its central library, established in 1964, holds over 200,000 books.
