Maharajas college Mysore
Maharaja's College, Mysuru began as the English-school 'Maharaja Patashala', founded in 1833 by Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar III at the request of General Fraser. It later became a High School and was handed over to the Government of Mysore in 1868. The present building's foundation was laid in 1889 by Prince Albert Victor of Wales, featuring arcaded verandahs, a mansard roof, and ornate architectural details, later inspiring the nearby Yuvaraja's College building. The college became affiliated with the University of Madras in 1879 and was upgraded to a first-grade college in 1894. It took its current form when the University of Mysore was established in 1916, using the college campus as its base until 1947. The college introduced M.A. courses in 1917 and has hosted many distinguished teachers such as Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and Kuvempu. It offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in humanities and sciences, and counts numerous notable alumni including writer R.K. Narayan, cartoonist R.K. Laxman, and former Union Minister S.M. Krishna.
