It was renamed in 2004, pioneered Core Competency Training and Total Productive Maintenance, and won the Golden Peacock National Training Award in 2011. In 2020 it was entrusted by the Central Information Commission to conduct RTI audits, and in 2021 it became part of Munitions India Limited. It achieved IMS certification (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001) in 2022 and launched an AICTE-approved PGDM in 2023. The institute conducts a 64-week induction programme for probationary officers, including attachments to ordnance factories, DRDO labs, proof ranges, and the Armed Forces, culminating in meetings with the President of India and the Minister of Defence. Candidates are selected via the Civil Services Examination and Engineering Services Examination conducted by the UPSC.
