Darbhanga Medical College & Hospital

Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) is a government medical college with multiple healthcare facilities located in Darbhanga, Bihar. It was established in 1925 through the efforts of King Rameshwar Singh of the Khandavala Dynasty, following a visit by the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII) to Bihar, who offered to upgrade an existing medical school, the 'Temple of Medical Learning', into a new college. The Raj family donated 300 acres of land between Darbhanga and Laheriasarai along with Rs 6 lakh for the college's establishment. It was initially located near Lohia Chowk before being renamed Darbhanga Medical College in 1946 by Kameshwar Singh. The college offers courses including Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, and BSc Nursing, with admissions based on NEET examination scores, regulated by the National Medical Commission. It is affiliated with Bihar University of Health Sciences and was once identified as a potential site for an AIIMS. The hospital provides major healthcare services, including a two-story Outdoor department serving thousands of patients daily, and is the primary public healthcare institution for Darbhanga and neighboring districts such as Madhubani, Saharsa, Supaul, and Samastipur. It is ranked 3rd in Bihar and 94th in India by IIRF 2023 ranking.
