GLOBAL EDUCATION

Global education is described as a mental development program aimed at improving global human development through understanding global dynamics and interconnectivity. It originated in the 1960s and 1970s through efforts of educationalists, NGOs, and intergovernmental organizations to restructure education and society, and has since evolved with the internet into a phase of virtual interconnectivity via social media and global public spheres. The concept critiques curriculum-based education as limited by memorization, narrow subject knowledge, and restricted access to development resources, proposing instead an approach that fosters global mental resources and appreciation of local and global perspectives. Different countries define global education variously: Australia emphasizes global citizenship and social justice; the UK treats it as a cross-curricular dimension encouraging global perspective; and the Network of Young Europeans frames it as an active learning process based on universal values. In the United States, organizations like the National Education Association and institutions such as THINK Global School and various universities promote global education through study abroad, exchange programs, and structured frameworks with global competency standards.
