Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) is a public hospital located in Hyderabad, Telangana, India, named after its founder, the 7th Nizam of the erstwhile Hyderabad State, and was inaugurated by Princess Durrushehvar. It is a state university established by the Andhra Pradesh State Legislature, situated on a sprawling campus in Punjagutta. NIMS is recognized by the National Medical Commission and is administered under a Governing Council, Executive Board, Director, and other statutory bodies. It publishes the monthly journal "The Clinical Proceedings of Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences." Its history traces back to the Nizam's Orthopaedic Hospital, inaugurated on 22 December 1964 by Union Minister S. K. Patil, with M. Ranga Reddy as its first Superintendent. The hospital was later handed over to the Andhra Pradesh Government. Academically, the institute conducts MD, MS, M.Ch, D.M, and Ph.D courses across about 40 disciplines, along with paramedical postgraduate diploma courses. In 2013, it expanded with a 300-bed Super Specialty Hospital and a 200-bed Accident & Trauma Hospital. In 2022, the Telangana government approved a ₹1,571 crore expansion project to add 2,000 beds and increase departments to 42. Notable alumni and faculty include prominent doctors such as Sree Bhushan Raju, Kakarla Subba Rao, and Padma Shri awardees D. Prasada Rao and Lavu Narendranath.
