Uttarakhand Sanskrit University, Hardwar

Gurukula Kangri is an Indian government-funded deemed university under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956, located near the bank of the Ganges in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, about 200 km from New Delhi. It was founded on 4 March 1902 by the Arya Samaj sannyasi Swami Shraddhanand, a follower of Dayananda Saraswati, with the aim of reviving the ancient Indian gurukula system and providing an alternative to Macaulay's education policy through teaching Vedic literature, Indian philosophy, culture, and modern sciences. The institution has 25 academic departments across faculties including Oriental Studies, Arts & Humanities, Sciences, Life Sciences, Management Studies, Engineering & Technology, Ayurveda & Medical Sciences, and Yoga and Physical Education. It has separate campuses for men and women, including the Main Campus at Haridwar, Kanya Campus Haridwar, Kanya Gurukul Mahavidhyalaya in Dehradun, and the Faculty of Engineering and Technology in Haridwar. The university was granted Deemed to be University status in 1962 by the University Grants Commission and received an A+ grade from NAAC in 2015, along with a four-star status from NAAC. Numerous notable guests and alumni, including political leaders, scientists, and public figures, have been associated with the institution.
