G.S. College of Commerce and Economics, Nagpur

G.S. College of Commerce and Economics, Nagpur (Autonomous) was established in 1945 by the Shiksha Mandal Educational Trust and named after industrialist Ghanashyamdas Birla. It was the first Commerce College in Nagpur and the second in Nagpur University, founded during India's independence movement to prepare professionals in business and economics. Initially offering a Bachelor of Commerce program covering Accounting, Economics, Corporate Law, and Business Management, the college later added postgraduate M.Com programs in Finance, Banking, and Taxation during the 1970s–1990s. From 2000 onward, it introduced courses in computer applications, financial management, and e-commerce, alongside e-learning resources, smart classrooms, and digital libraries, aligning with the Outcome Based Education model promoted by AICTE. The campus, located on about 6 acres in central Nagpur, blends colonial-era architecture with modern academic infrastructure. Its library holds more than 50,000 volumes and provides digital access to resources like JSTOR, ProQuest, and NDLI. The college also offers sports facilities, cultural clubs, and student societies. Notable alumni include Nitin Gadkari, former Minister of Road Transport and Highways, and Harish Salve, a prominent lawyer.
