National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra

National Institute of Technology Kurukshetra (NIT Kurukshetra or NITKKR) is a public technical and research university located in Kurukshetra, Haryana, India. Established in 1963 as Regional Engineering College, Kurukshetra, a joint enterprise of the Government of India and the Government of Punjab, it was renamed National Institute of Technology in 2002 under the NIT Act and given Deemed University status. In December 2008, it was accredited as an Institute of National Importance. It is one of the 31 National Institutes of Technology administered by the Government of India, offering undergraduate (B.Tech.), postgraduate (M.Tech., MBA, MCA), and Ph.D. programmes in engineering, sciences, humanities, and social sciences. Admissions to undergraduate programmes are based on the Joint Entrance Examination, while postgraduate admissions use GATE, CAT/JMET, or NIMCET scores. The campus includes 15 hostels, 11 for boys and 4 for girls. NITKKR is ranked 81st among engineering colleges in India by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in 2024. The institute hosts major student festivals, Techspardha (technical) and Confluence (cultural), and counts notable alumni such as Pawan Munjal, Srini Raju, and S N Subrahmanyan.
