Jagadguru Rambhadracharya Divyang State University, Chitrakoot

Jagadguru Rambhadracharya Divyanga University, formerly Jagadguru Rambhadracharya Handicapped University, is a public state government university located in Chitrakoot, Uttar Pradesh, India. It was founded by Jagadguru Rambhadracharya on 27 September 2001, with its foundation stone laid on 2 April 2001, and was inaugurated by Rajnath Singh on 26 July 2011. The university was created solely for disabled students, following Rambhadracharya's earlier establishment of the Tulasi School for the Blind in 1996. It is run by the Jagadguru Rambhadracharya Viklang Shikshan Sansthan trust. In June 2023, the Uttar Pradesh government passed the Uttar Pradesh Jagadguru Rambhadracharya Divyang State University Act, 2023, granting it state government university status under the Department of Divyangjan, mandating that 50 percent of admitted students be Divyang (disabled). The university offers graduate, postgraduate, and doctoral degrees across many subjects, admitting only visually, hearing, mobility, and mentally impaired students. It provides a disabled-friendly campus, Braille courses, special hostel facilities, distance education, and a placement center. It was the only university in the world exclusively for disabled people until Dr. Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University was established in Lucknow.
