Junagadh Agricultural University (JAU) is a public state agricultural university situated in Junagadh, Gujarat, India. It provides education in agriculture and allied sciences, including agriculture, agricultural engineering, and fisheries, through four faculties: agriculture, agricultural engineering, fisheries, and postgraduate studies. The university has an intake capacity of 135 students in agriculture, 70 in agricultural engineering, and 30 in fisheries, with postgraduate programs offered in agriculture and agricultural engineering. JAU maintains seven multidisciplinary Main Research Stations, five crop-specific Main Research Stations, and eleven sub-research stations or testing centres dedicated to developing new crop, vegetable, and fruit varieties and sustainable production technologies. Notably, the university's scientists developed the first hybrid bajra and hybrid castor. In June 2016, JAU gained media attention when its Food Testing Lab reported finding traces of gold in Gir cow urine. Historically, the College of Agriculture, Junagadh began in June 1960, initially affiliated with Gujarat University, Ahmedabad, until 1967, and then with Saurashtra University from 1968. The Gujarat Agricultural University, established in February 1972, was later split into four separate universities in 2004, with Junagadh Agricultural University beginning operations on 1 May 2004. The university also runs several colleges, polytechnics, research centres, and Krishi Vigyan Kendras across Gujarat.
