Fakir Chand College

Fakir Chand College, situated in Diamond Harbour, West Bengal, India, is a government college offering liberal arts, science, and commerce education, located 45 kilometres from Kolkata. Affiliated to the University of Calcutta, it is the oldest and largest college in the South 24 Parganas district. The college has about 100 teaching staff, 50 support staff, and 5,500 students, and was accredited with a B++ grade by NAAC in November 2016. It offers undergraduate courses in arts, science, and commerce, a B.Ed. programme, and postgraduate courses in Education, Bengali, History, and Mathematics. It serves as a study centre for IGNOU, Netaji Subhas Open University, and the University of Calcutta, and has NCC and NSS units. The college was founded in 1948 by local businessman Jagadish Chandra Halder in memory of his father, following a vision dating back to 1925. It began with intermediate courses and expanded over the years to include undergraduate arts, science, commerce, and B.Ed. courses. The college library, established in 1948, now holds over 52,191 volumes across UG, PG, and B.Ed sections, with an online public access catalog available.
