The School of Nursing, Baptist Christian Hospital, Tezpur, was founded in April 1954 by Ms. Arlene Jenson and Ms. Betty Pierson, Christian missionaries from the Baptist General Conference (BGC) USA. It was established with the objective of training nurses to improve healthcare delivery in the region, and admitted its first batch of six students in its inaugural year. The school offers the General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) program, which is recognized by both the Assam Nursing Council and the Indian Nursing Council. Students undergo clinical training primarily at the parent institution, Baptist Christian Hospital, a multi-specialty healthcare facility in Tezpur, Assam, that began as a small dispensary in the early 1950s under Dr. Charles C. Merchant. In addition to their training at the hospital, students are given opportunities for clinical exposure at other institutions, including the Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health (LGBRIMH), the Tezpur Cancer Centre, and Makunda Christian Leprosy & General Hospital. Since its founding, the School of Nursing has continued to train professional nurses, contributing to healthcare capacity in Assam alongside the hospital's broader mission of serving rural and underserved populations.
