GOVERNMENT POLYTECHNIC, DIU

Government Polytechnic, Panaji is a polytechnic institute in Goa, India, providing full-time diploma programs in engineering and technology approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the Government of Goa. It originated from the upgrading of the 'Institute of Escola de Industrial e Commercial', a Portuguese technical institute, to polytechnic status after the Annexation of Goa. The campus is located on Altinho hill and spans about 74,000 square meters, featuring laboratories, a computer center, a conference hall, a gymnasium, and sports facilities, with hostel accommodation for 300 boys and 150 girls. The institute is administered by a Principal, supported by sections such as Public Information, Establishment, Stores and Purchase, Accounts, and Students' sections. Academically, it has thirteen departments offering diploma programs mostly of three years, with some extending to 3½ or 4 years, and examinations conducted by the Directorate of Technical Education, Porvorim-Goa, which awards the final diplomas. Admission since 1997-98 has been centralized through a Common Information Bulletin published by the Directorate of Technical Education. The institute also has a library, two hostels, and a student welfare body called the Gymkhana Committee, headed by the Principal as president.
