Sir Rashbehari Ghosh Mahavidyalaya

Sir Rashbehari Ghosh Mahavidyalaya is a college located at Ukhrid in Khandaghosh CD Block, in Purba Bardhaman district, West Bengal. It was established in 2010, keeping in line with the ideals of Sir Rash Behari Ghosh, an eminent Indian politician, lawyer, social worker, and philanthropist who was born in the nearby Torkona village in the Khandaghosh area. Ghosh, who served twice as President of the Indian National Congress and was knighted in 1915, was known for his extensive contributions to education and charity. He donated much of his fortune to establish schools, hospitals, and educational endowments, including the Torkona Jagabandhu School in his native village, an endowment for scientific studies at Calcutta University, and funding for the National Council of Education at Jadavpur, which later became Jadavpur University. The Mahavidyalaya named after him stands as a continuation of his legacy of promoting education in the region where he was born and raised. His family home in Burdwan district remains intact, and his descendants continue to reside there, with some involved in law and engineering professions.
