UTTAR PRADESH TEXTILE TECHNOLOGY INSTITUTE, KANPUR

Uttar Pradesh Textile Technology Institute (UPTTI), Kanpur, formerly known as Government Central Textile Institute (GCTI), is a state government-founded textile engineering college and one of the oldest premier textile institutes of North India, established in 1914 as the School of Dyeing and Printing. In 1937, it took its present form after merging with the textile department of Thomson Civil Engineering College, Roorkee, and began offering diploma programs. In 1958/59, four-year B.Tech degree programs in Textile Technology and Textile Chemistry were introduced, initially affiliated with Agra University, later Kanpur University (1966), and now Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow. The institute added B.Tech in Man Made Fibre Technology (1976) and Textile Engineering (2005), along with M.Tech programs in Textile Technology and Textile Chemistry. It became autonomous in 2006 and was renamed UPTTI, gaining academic autonomy from UGC in 2012. The institute is organized into four textile departments plus Basic Sciences and Engineering, with facilities for doctoral research. It celebrated its centenary in November 2014 and has separate hostels for boys and girls on campus.
