GOVERNMENT MEDICAL COLLEGE, THRISSUR
Government Medical College Thrissur, colloquially known as Thrissur Medical College, is a government medical school in Thrissur, Kerala, established in 1982. It is the fifth oldest medical college in the state and the fourth most popular choice for medical undergraduate students in Kerala. The college is affiliated to the Kerala University of Health Sciences, which began functioning on its campus in 2009. Spread over more than 250 acres at Mulagunnathukavu, about 14 kilometres from Thrissur downtown, the college was inaugurated on 1 April 1982 by Governor Jyothi Vencatachellum. It moved to its permanent site by March 1983, with clinical departments starting in 1983 at the former District Hospital before shifting to the new Medical College Hospital Complex in 2005. The college gained permanent recognition from the IMC in 1991 and WHO in 1993. It houses a Chest Hospital, hostels, a library, canteens, and attached rural and urban health centres. The Thrissur Medical College Alumni Association (TMCAA) supports academic and infrastructural development. The college was selected as the best medical college in Kerala by the Swasthya conference in 2021.
