Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, Chennai

Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University (TNDALU) is a public state university established in 1997 at Chennai, India, by the Government of Tamil Nadu under The Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University Act, 1996. This act also brought all law colleges in Tamil Nadu under the university's control. The university is named after B. R. Ambedkar, an Indian jurist, social reformer, and architect of the Constitution of India. It was inaugurated on 20 September 1997 by K. R. Narayanan, former president of India. In 2002, the university started a law school on its own campus called the School of Excellence in Law, Chennai (SOEL). SOEL offers a three-year Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) program and five-year integrated double-degree courses combining LL.B. with Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Computing, Bachelor of Business Administration, or Bachelor of Computer Application. The Postgraduate Department offers Master of Laws degrees in nine branches. In February 2016, Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa unveiled a new campus at Perungudi, next to Taramani MRTS station, featuring administrative and academic blocks, a library, hostel facilities for girls, and a playground with a gallery, built at a cost of 59.27 crore.
