Goalpara College

Goalpara College is an institution of higher learning located in Goalpara, Assam, India. It was founded on 8 August 1955 with the support of local people, beginning with 6 lecturers and 22 students under principal Wazuddin Ahmed. The college was established to address the lack of higher education access for students on the south bank of the Brahmaputra, as the only existing degree college was at Dhubri on the north bank. A permanent building was completed in 1959, and the college was brought under the deficit grant-in-aid system in 1962. A science faculty was introduced in 1966. Today, the college has 16 departments and a staff of 110, offering three-year degree courses in Arts and Science leading to BA and BSc degrees, as well as two-year Higher Secondary courses. It is affiliated with Gauhati University and also provides distance education through IGNOU, KKHSOU, and IDOL. The campus spans about 10 acres and includes a library with around 27,000 books, subscriptions to national and international journals, and a book bank for economically weaker students. The college received an A+ NAAC accreditation in 2023 and has secured grants from DST and DBT. It also maintains separate hostels for boys and girls, each with 50 seats.
